Wow, what an ending! I have to admit that when I saw the cover to this light novel a while back, I was suspecting it to be just a simple “ROM-COM” (romance comedy) anime story. Man, was I wrong..... ⚠️WARNING⚠️: There will be SPOILERS mention in this review. If you do not want this story to be spoiled in any way, please, don’t read any further in this review. If you are okay with a few spoilers, then read on! You have been warned.Where to start.... Basically this IS a “ROM-COM” with a little Isekai fantasy sprinkle in a little here and there.Our main protagonist, “Kou”, as we come to know his as by that name, isn’t really your average anime magic character. Kou, doesn’t even want to be that main protagonist in this story (which is ironic, because he is literally the main character in this story)! He just wants to live his life on the side-lines as a support character. Why? You have to read the book to find out ( you didn’t think I was going to spoil everything, did you?)! He is also the destroyer of anime troupes in this book! If I had a number of how many anime troupes/themes he destroyed or made fun of in this story, that number would be in the triple digits!Now, there were a few parts in the book where our protagonist gets off topic in some cases. For example, he went on a paragraph long rant about shampoo. I found this tedious, but I soon came to understand why he does it. You see, Kou isn’t your normal anime protagonist.... He has a past, a dark and troubling past. It is filled with bloodshed and betrayal. I was shocked to learn the few things I did about our mysterious protagonist, and actually came to understand why he didn’t want the role as the main character in his own story. If you too, reader of my review, want to learn the “why’s” and “how’s” of this story’s main protagonist, then I must recommend that you read this book. Give it a chance to grab you and shock you as it has for me. I promise you that you won’t regret it (hopefully).Toshizo, thank you for this amazing story! You certainly know how to throw a good amount of mystery, drama, humor, and anime troupes destroying logic into your story. Definitely looking forward to the next volume to this series. Thank you again for all the twists and turns of this story. To say that I was “blown-away” would have been an understatement.FINAL RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Don't expect a light and fluffy story. The MC has deep psychological trauma and a bad case of survivor's guilt. At the end, he wipes the sister's memories of him because he believes he should be punished (the survivor's guilt). Of course, that mentality didn't stop him from spending a week or so flirting with her and other girls, and he also didn't seem to care that much that he was overriding her own wishes in order to impose his own. Not sure if that is supposed to be chalked up to him being a teenager or just bad writing.Honestly, this is one of the extremely few books I've regretted buying. Perhaps the story gets better in Volume 2, but it's just not worth pursuing this series.Plot aside, the writing is tedious and boring most of the time. Rather than the dialog or action driven writing that is the norm for light novels, most of the books is the MC's inner monologues and thoughts.
